03 September 2023 – The documentary “Il Bianco nel Blu” directed by Igor D’India (director specialized in filming on environmental protection), recounts the scientific research of black coral by marine biologist Giovanni Chimienti in the waters of the Egadi Islands .

The biologist, together with his team of scientists, divers and technicians, discovered on the seabed of the island a forest of black corals of approximately 4,000 m2 between 55 and 80 meters deep. The documentary traces the history of the research expeditions off the coast of Marettimo, where an extraordinary and partly still unknown biodiversity is found.

The scientific film was created as part of the Sea Beyond project , promoted by the Prada Group and the Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission (IOC) of UNESCO to spread the principles of ocean education and inspire new generations to protect it.

18 September 2023 – The 18th edition of the Sea Games , a historic event organized by FIPSAS (Italian Federation of Sport Fishing and Underwater Activities), took place with great success in September in Ischia .

The event was marked by two world records in freediving for the disabled , as well as competitions in aquathlon, deep sea fishing, surfcasting, the “Suzuki Challenge” in fin swimming, to which were added the underwater competitions of the “Grande Impero Trophy”. ”, and then even photos, safaris and underwater videos.

Prof. Ugo Claudio Matteoli , President of FIPSAS, comments : “We have once again managed to involve the territory as well as a large number of Sports Federations. The 2023 edition of the Sea Games ended with an absolutely positive sporting outcome , and we are aiming for the next edition.

October 14, 2023 – The Ocean Photographer of the Year is the annual photography competition that celebrates the ocean, its inhabitants, its beauty, its dangers and its weaknesses. The first prize of the 2023 edition was won by the photography of Jialing Cai , a marine biologist and amateur photographer who managed to immortalize an argonaut while floating on the debris deposited by a volcanic eruption that occurred in the Philippines. Second prize went to a Russian photographer who managed to capture a crab sitting in the center of a sea anemone .
